We all no that Christmas is a busy time of year and if you are anything like me, you will leave everything to the last minute. So to save you the aggro The Cutting Rooms stylists will be working their days off to fit you all in.

Christmas is our busiest time of year, but as we are all now working extra days we still have free appointments. However, make sure you ring up soon. They are going quick!

To make your decision easier, The Cutting Rooms staff are going to be putting their neck on the line by trying to persuade you into liking their product as much as they do.

So first up… is of course… George.

George’s favourite product of the month is, Redken’s newly released, WAX BLAST.

Wax blast is a high impact finishing spray wax. It smells immense! It adds body and definition to every body’s hair (yes, even you with your fine limp hair), without making it feel all sticky and tacky.

How to use:

This product is the easiest product to use ever! All you have to do is shake the bottle well and mist on dry hair. Unlike normal pots of wax, you won’t get big clumps randomly all over your hair.

We have decided to join in on the fun and pick out the best and worst looking footballers and WAG’s.

So here we go….

The Good:

Even though he can  look a little bit of a dork now and again, I really like Peter Crouch. You need someone to laugh at after 90 minutes of boredom! I’m only joking! Abi Clancy must have given him a good telling off recently, because he has been looking really smart. Longish hair on men has really hit it off this season and is a big fashion must-do, specially with blonde highlights.

Alex Gerrad is beautiful. She always looks amazing. Blonde highlights have always been popular and will continue to be this year,  Alex is bang on trend with having slightly more golden tones going through. The whole Jennifer Anisten blondes are really big this season.

The Bad:

Grrr…. As a huge Cheryl Cole fan I am putting bad boy Ashley Cole in the bad catorgory. Yes, mainly because he cheated on her,  I’m to loyal to be nice to him!

I never see a picture with Toni Poole smiling in… but then to be fair you wouldn’t have a lot to smile about if you had a cheating husband. Aswell as having really stripey highlights, I’m not the biggest fan of stripey hair. It all needs blending in with all different tones of blondes. She’s  the WAG whose hair and heart are in desparate need of some TLC.

The Ugly:

Not a lot needs to be said about Rooney.

In this picture her hair seems to wash her out a bit. Maybe she should go with more golden tones and go slightly darker, to give her a bit of colour. It would take years off her.

The Best:

Pefection!

I hate to admit it but she is PEFECTION as well. Her hair, her make – up, her figure… makes me sick. Mind you I would struggle to wake up next Peter Crouch every morning! Ek.

What were you thinking:

Looks the the football squad are training hard… but can see the rivalry already.

Why would you give yourself a wedgy?

Rio with a Afro…. Brilliant. All he needs now is a hair band and an afro comb.

Again… Not alot can be said about this picture apart from GROSS.

Before you panic… all of our staff have been trained until the point they will explode. We  probably know more about Redken than we ever did about Wella. We are able to match your previous colour to Redken, so there shouldn’t be any change to your colour.

A massive well done to all the girls at our Far Cotton salon. All their hard work has finally paid off, as the are crowned the winner of  The Cutting Rooms Christmas decorations competition.

In the beginning:

I started hairdressing in 1983 with Braids Salon Northampton they had salons in Milton Keynes, Birmingham and London. I loved my job working with so many people and looking after clients. Although the salons were very trendy and hip they didn’t really care about their clients and because of this I left to look for a company that did.

I found a salon, again in Northampton called Catz, owned by a very talented lady called Joy Agar that ran it., To this day she is the most talented all round creative hairdresser I’ve known. She was the one who taught me how to cut hair. I stayed 3 years, but still something was missing! Joy wasn’t teaching me about business or service.

I left in October 89 to become a stylist with Michael Barry and John Hensman. I worked between two salons as a stylist, doing stock control and learning any task they threw at me. I knew this would help me in my long term plan to own lots of salons, reach my goals within the industry and to become a salon director.

I stayed for 2 years, but in 1988 I left to work in Newport Pagnall in a salon called Scruples, which was owned by a guy called Guy Christie. He changed my whole outlook on hairdressing and with his help he sent me on courses with 365 day hairdressing (of which Greg was a member). The company 365 hairdressing was owned by Steven Way and Lesley Spear’s. There I learnt about consultation and the real key to success in our business. In those days we called it the Five Step Recipe. It was a consultation technique that got all the information out of a client. We would ask our clients:

1. Why they changed hairdressers?
2. Why they had come today:

• if they were going out,
• just for a maintenance cut,
• special occasion etc

3.. Have they got time for this? Making sure it is ok with them

4.How do they manage their hair at home?

5.Find out what they would like and suggest a change

6.Make sure you tell them you are going to listen to them, most client’s leave their old salon because their hairdresser didn’t listen to them

7.Find out how long it has been since their last hair cut and make sure we give them the instruction to manage their hair at home!

8.I could go on and on…………………

Thing I love about my job:

I love the feeling I get when someone comes in and I can see they are not happy with the way they look. They might have just had a baby or may just be feeling down and they want me to help them feel better about themselves. I know how to do that by taking the time and care to give them a colour or style. I can send them home feeling good about themselves and looking great (even doctors can’t do that). It’s simple. There is always an away to make someone hair look better! It’s just the time and the interest in the client that is important.

I also love to see new stylists go onto the salon floor for the first time. I feel really proud of them. Most of them don’t realise how much it means to me to see them succeed in their profession and be great hairdressers. They develop from kids or school leavers into these bright creative young stylists that are completely different people from when they walked through the doors 2 or 3 years before. Some move on to other salons and some stay, but that is just business but the whole development of them is great to see.

People who inspire me:

VIDAL SASSOON: He is in my book of ‘The Greats! He was the man who revolutionised our business by inventing the blow-dry! That’s just naming one of his innovations. His haircuts are the basis of all our work today. Amazing!

ANTONY MASQOLO (the Tony from Tony&Guy): Probably the sharpest business man I know, whilst being a great hairdresser and fab photographer!

MY WHOLE TEAM: They never cease to amaze me with some of the work they do!
